The Ursuline Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of Louisville began
when three sisters from Straubing, Germany, arrived to teach at St. Martin
School in Louisville in 1858. They first founded schools on the Ursuline
Campus on Lexington Road in 1877. Among other things, Ursuline Sisters
are educators, social workers, healthcare professionals and administrators.
They work with the poor and disenfranchised in a variety of programs while
continuing to search for ways to grow personally and spiritually. As women
of peace, hope and simplicity, Ursuline Sisters seek to empower women
and to be in solidarity with them in a shared search for God.
