Physician's
generosity brings music to Marian Home residents
LOUISVILLE,
KY (April 25, 2003) - Residents at Marian Home, the licensed nursing facility
sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, would be celebrating
mass - singing and enjoying music - when all of a sudden, the organ would
stop working.
"It
was so frustrating to be playing and then not have any music at all,"
said Sister Raymunda Orth, who plays the organ for celebrations.
As
part of Marian Home's 25th anniversary
fundraising campaign, the Office of Development went about trying
to find someone willing to donate funds for a new organ. Prayers were
answered with the generosity of Paul Kelty, M.D., a physician practicing
in Louisville and Corydon, Ind., and cousin to Sister Borromeo Walker.
A new Allen Protégé electronic organ was delivered to Marian
Home on April 7.
"Dr.
Kelty made the gift in honor of his parents, William and Frances, as well
as Sister Borromeo," said Sister Jean Anne Zappa, president of the
Ursuline Sisters of Louisville. "There are many more things we're
trying to raise money for at Marian Home, but we're overjoyed that someone
stepped forward right away to help with this very important aspect of
the sisters' and other residents' lives."

Sister M. Dolora Stueve blessed the new organ with chrism oil at a special
ceremony.

Philip Brisson, organist/choirmaster at Louisville's Cathedral of the
Assumption, performed a special concert to show the sisters the beauty
of the new organ.
