Bargain Barn
to close
LOUISVILLE,
Ky. (Nov. 18, 2002) - After 25 years, the Bargain Barn, a volunteer-run
yard sale-type store on the Ursuline Campus, will close its doors. The
closing is set for the end of December and is a result of space and safety
concerns on campus.
The
Bargain Barn raises an average of $70,000 per year to benefit Marian Home,
the licensed nursing facility sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville.
The facility is home to many retired and infirm sisters.
"We're
grateful to our dedicated volunteers who have spent countless hours raising
money for Marian Home through the Bargain Barn," said Sister Jean
Anne Zappa, president of the Ursuline Sisters. "Our volunteers have
come to be like family and this closing is going to leave a big void in
our hearts.
"Unfortunately, safety concerns on campus and the resulting space
utilization changes of campus offices necessitate this decision. The challenge
will now be finding a way to replace funds lost by the closing of the
Bargain Barn."
One
way to supplement lost funds over the closing is through a fundraising
campaign recently launched by the Office of Development. The campaign
seeks to raise funds to support individual projects at Marian Home, such
as purchasing special equipment for residents and refurbishing resident
rooms. For more information, visit www.ursulineslou.org.
The
Bargain Barn is open Mondays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to noon. It is
located on the Ursuline Campus, 3115 Lexington Road, building 11. For
more information, visit www.ursulineslou.org or call 897-1811 or 896-4446.
