Angela Merici High School Reunion,
November 30, 2002

Alumnae gathered for the first-ever all-class Angela Merici High School Homecoming on Nov. 30 and it was a night of fellowship, friendship, food and fun.

Though the school closed its doors for good in 1984, the years seemed to melt away as more than 400 former students and faculty came back to AMHS, which is now the Louisville Archdiocese's Flaget Center.

A salute to Betty Dwyer, a beloved teacher and coach who taught many years at Angela Merici High School, was the highlight of the evening. Attendees also enjoyed music, dancing and reminiscing.

"What a spirited and exciting reunion," said Sister Jean Anne Zappa, President of the Ursuline Sisters. "I started my teaching career at Angela Merici High School 30 years ago. The years I spent teaching there were some of the best I've experienced. This really brings back some wonderful memories for me."

Sister Jo Ann Jansing taught at AMHS from 1962 to 1965 and commented on the enthusiasm of those attending the reunion.

"I loved seeing everyone," she said. "It was great to see so many there that I had taught and to have them greet me with such affection and gratitude.I was amazed at what so many are doing with their lives now and I am so proud of them."

Sister Judith Rice, who taught at AMHS in the 1970s, remarked about how the students and faculty used to work hard, but still managed to maintain a sense of fun. She said that lighthearted approach to life was evident at the reunion. "They're all just as much fun now as they were when we were all together," she said.
