Bellarmine
University dedicates statue of St. Angela
On
April 16, 2003, Bellarmine University dedicated a sculpture of St. Angela
similar to the one that currently sits in Brescia Hall (on the Ursuline
Campus) in recognition of the Ursuline Sisters role in the formation
of the university.
In 1938, the Ursuline Sisters founded Ursuline
College as a way to continue educating young women past the junior
college level. For 30 years the college thrived and 1,100 women earned
their degrees. In 1968, Ursuline College merged with Bellarmine College
for men.

The sculpture, designed by Bob Lockhart, was donated to Bellarmine by
Robert Bailey (Bellarmine College 58) in memory of his wife, Patricia
Jean Stauble Bailey (Ursuline College 53).
The
sculpture is in the Maurice D.S. Johnson Quadrangle, located between
the Brown Activities Center and Wyatt Center for the Arts.
