Ursuline Sisters host 16th annual Ursuline Campus Art Fair

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 10, 2002) - Art, entertainment, children's activities and food - it's all at the 16th annual Ursuline Campus Art Fair, Sept. 21 and 22. The fair is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., 3105 Lexington Rd. in Louisville. Admission is free and open to the public. Parking and shuttle service are available at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary one-half mile west of the Ursuline Campus at 2825 Lexington Rd.

The main attraction of the fair is 130 juried artists, representing many different mediums from painting to sculpture, fabrics to jewelry and pottery to wood art. Click here for a full listing of artists.

In addition to art, the fair offers entertainment throughout the weekend. Some of the musical groups performing include Holy Name Band, a 100-piece band made up of local musicians, the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra and Americamanta, an Indian musical group from Otavalo, Ecuador.

For children, the art fair offers an activity area staffed by local Girl and Boy scouts. This kid-friendly area has various arts and crafts including painting, making sand art and paper airplane construction. There is a small charge for each activity. Proceeds from the children's activity area benefit the scout troops.

The Ursuline Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of Louisville began when three sisters from Straubing, Germany, arrived to teach at St. Martin School in Louisville in 1858. They first founded schools on the Ursuline Campus on Lexington Road in 1877. Among other things, Ursuline Sisters are educators, social workers, healthcare professionals and administrators. They work with the poor and disenfranchised in a variety of programs while continuing to search for ways to grow personally and spiritually. As women of peace, hope and simplicity, Ursuline Sisters seek to empower women and to be in solidarity with them in a shared search for God.
