Qualifications of an Ursuline Sister

The response to this divine call is a gradual, dynamic process. It starts with you and involves a continuous and progressive maturing in your relationship with Jesus Christ, with others and with all creation, so that you, in turn, may help to form Christ in others.

We can arrange a private, initial consultation, at your convenience. You may also want to tour our Motherhouse in Louisville, Kentucky, and speak with some of our sisters about their ministry work. We can also put you in touch with Ursuline Sisters ministering in or near your area.

What qualifications do I need to become an Ursuline Sister?
To qualify for the first step - initial formation - you need to be a Catholic woman between the ages of 20 and 45, with the following background:

    • Have received the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation.
    • Have a sincere desire to live in the congregation.
    • Be free to make a commitment to religious life.
    • Be in good physical and mental health.
    • Possess spiritual, emotional and social maturity.
    • Have potential for undertaking an active ministry.

It is desirable that, in addition to having completed high school, you have at least two years of professional, college, or life experience that points toward a ministry consistent with the mission of the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville.
